HARRY'S BLOG

Welcome to my 'Official' BLOG!

Tuesday, January 25, 2005

I've been posting more frequently on my NJ.com Blog and have sorta been ignoring my website blog. I know, I know, shame on me.

Anyway, for the time being, please pay a visit to 'Alpha To Zikas' to read up on what's been going on lately.

Thanks.

Today's issue of The Express-Times featured the article on blogging. If you missed it, you can click here to check it out. My comments made the cut as did my lovely photo in the print edition. I have to give tons of credit to Jenna Portnoy, the article was well written and the title, New kids on the blog, was definitely clever. The article made mention of the fact that blogs aren't considered 'mainstream' and I consider that part of the allure. I tend to read the ones that include bits of news mixed with commentary. When I want straight news, I'll turn to CNN, but when I want to know what others are thinking about the news, I check out Daily Kos or Talking Points Memo. With that, I hope you all continue to read my posts as I truly enjoy blogging for you.

In other news, it seems I am finally over the cold that I was battling. I'll definitely be at 100% for the Council Meeting on Tuesday Night.

I'll spare you the details, but I spent the entire week battling the worst cold I have ever had. I don't know if it was the flu or what, but it was brutal. The only thing I really made it to this week was Council's Re-Organization Meeting on Tuesday Night. I blogged about it on NJ.com and you can read the details by clicking here.

Speaking of blogs, make sure you pick up a copy of the Sunday Edition of The Express-Times and check out the story on blogs. I was interviewed for it last week by Jenna Portnoy. Also, I was invited to speak on a panel about blogs on January 19.

That's about it for now. I'll post tomorrow after I read the blog story and give you my take on it.

Hmm, why is Harry blogging at 1:30am on New Year's Day? Well, this is the 2nd year my family has stayed home for New Year's Eve. For years, we got dressed up and headed to our church hall for a Greek Dance/New Year's Eve Party, but that all changed last year. Personally, I'm all for going out and having a great time, but I like staying at home and doing my own thing much better. My mom, dad and sister lounged in the living room watching Fame Story, which is a Greek version of American Idol. My brother surfed the net and I watched the ball drop in Times Square on tv. Sounds exciting! Like I said though, it was definitely a relaxing and quiet time at home.

As the clock struck midnight, I did hear some fireworks and horns blowing about a block or two away, which definitely made me feel good about the upcoming year. While 2004 ended in tragedy in Asia, I'm hoping 2005 is a better year for us all.

Happy New Year!

By the way, my New Year's Resolution is to blog more often! Let's see if I can! :-)

As we head full speed into the holidays, I want each of you to have a safe and wonderful holiday season. Also, as 2005 quickly approaches, I would like to thank everyone for an unforgettable 2004. It definitely had its ups and its downs, but the borough pulled through. Again, thank you all.

Now that Election Day has come and gone, things are finally getting back to normal. While I was disappointed with the outcome of the Presidential Election, I couldn't be more pleased with the results here in Alpha. Councilman Ed Hanics and Councilwoman Carol Schwar will keep their seats as they defeated Former Councilman Tom Seiss. On the other hand, Mr. Seiss did win the one-year unexpired term. I don't like Mr. Seiss, I rarely agree with him, but I respect his opinions and appreciate his service to the Borough of Alpha.

Moving on, I would like everyone to know that our Junior Midget Cheerleaders might be on their way to Disney World to compete in national competition. The Alpha Youth Athletic Association (AYAA) is hosting a comedy night fundraiser for them on Friday, November 19th from 7pm to 12am at Almond Tree Manor. It's $30 per person and includes the show, music, dancing and buffet. For more information, please email coltsinfo@alphacolts.com. I urge everyone to come out, have a good time and support our youth.

I want to wish you the best of luck on your quest for a national championship! Put Alpha on the map!

Election Day is upon us! I urge all of you to get to your polling places and cast your vote! YOUR VOTE DOES COUNT!

Here in Alpha we have 3 council seats up for grabs: 2 three-year full terms and a one-year unexpired term. For the 2 full term seats, I am enthusiastically endorsing Ed Hanics and Carol Schwar.

Again, I urge all of you to get out and VOTE! All Alpha Residents can vote at the Alpha Firehouse. Polls will be open from 6am to 8pm.
